Discover Bounce Curl’s NEW Weightless Collection — Light Hydration + Definition for Fine Curls
Hello curlfriends! 💛
I’m Jen, founder of The Curl Store, and I’m so excited to share something truly special for anyone in Australia with fine, soft, or easily weighed-down curls: the Bounce Curl Weightless Collection. Designed to give you hydration without heaviness, this line is perfect if you’ve struggled with products that are too heavy (especially if you need that hydration, but the hydration often comes with weight!) or limp curls after styling. On a personal note, as a fine haired/high porosity/low density curly - this one was MADE for me... so I'm thrilled to have it here (and volunteer as tribute to try ALL the combos!)
The Bounce Curl Weightless Collection includes five beautifully balanced products that hydrate, protect, define, and lift your curls without unnecessary weight.
This much hyped launch has dropped in Australia in late February and given that it's 5 new products in one go - the most asked question has been "which products should I grab?". I can tell you that most curlies who fall into the categories that this collection has been designed for (fine haired, easily weighed down wavies/curlies/coilies) won't actually need to use all 5 products every wash day (though some may like to grab all 5 and play mix n match on wash day, that's fine too!)

🌊 What Makes the Weightless Collection Special?
Unlike heavier creams and thick gels that can flatten or weigh down fine hair, the Bounce Curl Weightless Collection uses innovative lightweight technology including Volunix Bio-Actives™ and gentle effective formulas to provide moisture and definition without heaviness. This makes it brilliant for fine, low-density or low-porosity hair types that need weightless hydration & definition.
💦 What is in Collection? Meet the 5 Weightless Collection Products
This refreshing cleanser gently removes oil and build-up while delivering lightweight hydration that won’t strip or flatten your curls. It’s ideal for those with fine or soft hair that loses volume quickly. This cleanser foams similarly to standard shampoos, but does not feel strippy (even after a double cleanse).
How to use:
Massage into wet hair, rinse thoroughly, and follow with the Weightless Conditioning Mask or your favourite conditioner.
A standout product if you want a conditioning treatment that feels light but deeply hydrating. It softens and smooths curls without dragging them down — perfect for detangling and prepping hair for styling.
How to use:
Apply generously mid-length to ends after shampooing, leave on 3–5 minutes, then rinse. Great to use once or twice a week for extra hydration.
This multitasking leave-in conditioner hydrates and protects your curls from heat damage — up to 232c — all with a weightless finish. It’s an amazing base layer even if you’re diffusing dry.
How to use:
Apply to damp hair from mid-length to ends before styling. Great under creams or gels for extra slip and protection.
This 4-in-1 cream-gel hybrid is one of the stars of the collection. It combines softness, definition, light hold, and hydration in one step — giving hair movement, shape and touchable softness without that weighed-down feeling heavier creams can cause.
How to use:
Apply on wet hair (after leave-in if you're using it). Rake through with your fingers or a detangling tool, then scrunch and dry.
A lightweight, medium-hold styling gel that delivers curl definition and frizz control without crunch. This clear jelly provides structured shape while keeping curls soft to the touch — ideal for fine and medium curls that want definition and bounce.
How to use:
Apply to wet hair after your leave-in, cream or conditioner. Scrunch from ends toward the roots and leave to air-dry or diffuse gently.
🔁 Which ones should I get?
This will depend on your priorities, hair and desired outcomes. Here's my top 3 combos - the best Routines for Fine or Easily Weighed-Down Curls with specific needs/priorities.
✨ Lightweight Hydration Routine (Where hydration and definition are equal priorities, hold less so)
Weightless Shampoo
Weightless Conditioning Mask
Thermal Guard Weightless Leave-In
Hydra-Lite Styling Cream
This combo gives you soft, touchable curls that are hydrated without heaviness (and great if you plan to use heat!).
🤝 Defined, Light Hold Routine (where hydration, definition and hold are equal priorities)
Weightless Shampoo
Weightless Conditioning Mask
Thermal Guard Weightless Leave-In
Ceramide Jelly
Perfect if you use heat, have higher porosity or you’re after definition and frizz control with a medium hold that still feels weightless.
🪽 Super Light Weight Routine (if weightless definition and hold are a priority, hydration less so)
Weightless Shampoo
Hydra-lite Cream
Ceramide Jelly
Skipping the in-shower conditioner in favour of the heavier leave in (Hydra-Lite Cream instead of Thermal Guard Weightless Leave In) will give you definition and hold without any extra weight.
TLDR? Here's a simplified shopping list:
Fine haired, need hydration & definition but softer hold: shampoo, conditioner, cream
Fine haired, hold/hydration/definition are equal priorities or uses heat: shampoo, conditioner, leave in, jelly
Fine haired, want definition/frizz control and need hold: shampoo, cream, jelly
Medium-coarse haired, equal priority hydration/definition/hold: shampoo, conditioner, cream, jelly
Medium-coarse haired, needs hydration but wants volume & hold: shampoo, conditioner, leave in, jelly
👃What do the Bounce Curl Weightless Collection products smell like?
All of the scents are plant derived. They are all mild. For reference, my favourite smelling product in the entire The Curl Store stock list is Bounce Curl Rose & Avocado Clump & Define Cream. If you're already a Bounce Curl Fan, you know this one (I'm just telling you this, so you can gauge my scent preferences). There are a couple of different scents in this collection, lets go one by one
Weightless Shampoo:
Official Scent Notes - Juicy mango–pear–banana notes open with fresh green mint and subtle woody-floral depth, finishing with creamy coconut-pineapple undertones and a hint of sweet orange zest.
Jen's Notes - sweet & fruity. I pick up pineapple, pear & woody scent. Everything else in the official list is there, but background. It's certainly not "coconutty".
Weightless Conditioning Mask:
Official Scent Notes - Infused with a juicy, plant-based mango and peach aroma for a fresh, clean, subtly sweet finish.
Jen's Notes - fruity & creamy. I don't discern a specific fruit, it's just fruity. Creamier than the shampoo.
Thermal Guard Weightless Leave In:
Official Scent Notes - A thoughtfully formulated scent, with notes of soft rose, pear, warm woods, and vanilla.
Jen's Notes - The rose & vanilla are at the forefront. It's a warm, welcoming scent. Not strong at all. Does not linger.
Hydra-Lite Cream:
Official Scent Notes - Juicy mango–pear–banana smoothie bursts open with fresh green mint and subtle woody-floral depth, finishing with creamy coconut-pineapple undertones and a whisper of sweet orange zest.
Jen's Notes - Mango/Banana definitely the forefront (but it's not that banana paddlepop scent! think more banana bread with actual bananas in it, it's natural banana!) - stronger than the leave in, but still would describe this as mild. Next day after wash day, I couldn't pick up any scent when I stuck my nose in my hair, it just smelled fresh.
Ceramide Jelly:
Official Scent Notes - A juicy mango–pear–banana with fresh green mint, and creamy tropical undertones.
Jen's Notes - very similar to the shampoo. Pear/Pineapple/Woody.
🤲 What do they feel like? What are the textures?
Weightless Shampoo:
This is an almost clear (cloudy) not too thick/not too runny that it will run out of your palms in the shower. It definitely foams (but does not strip, even after a double cleanse).
Weightless Conditioning Mask:
It's thick but not butter-thick. It feels almost whipped but does not look whipped. If you unscrew the lid and hold the jar upside down, the movement is glacial (barely discernible) - I don't recommend doing this though, I risked it for the article, but would have been devastated if I lost any!
Thermal Guard Weightless Leave In:
Clear, very light spray. It's almost like water when it comes through the sprayer.
Hydra-Lite Cream:
The official product listing refers to this as a cream-gel hybrid. The texture definitely leans closer to cream (again, it feels almost whipped but doesn't look it). It's white, maybe 5% transparent.
Ceramide Jelly:
Cloudy, Almost clear (90% transparency with a creamy coloured base) - almost like 75% set jelly. It will move if you tip the jar but not runny.
🔓What's the hold like?
A number of factors will impact the hold levels you get out of any product. The creamy product to hold product ratio (too much cream/not enough hold product will lower hold and vice versa), whether your hair is fine/medium/coarse, the application amount and order will all impact hold levels. As such, I'll speak generally about this, including my experience.
The products in this line that contain hold ingredients are Hydra-Lite Styling Cream and Ceramide Jelly. Bounce Curl have described Hydra-Lite Styling Cream as Light Hold and Ceramide Jelly as Medium Hold. Scroll down for my experience, but I would agree with this assessment.
Combinations - you will get more hold if you use Hydra-Lite Styling Cream and Ceramide Jelly together. If, for example, you switch the cream for the leave in (as the leave in contains no hold ingredients).
Application order - you can increase hold by trying the 'smasters technique' (this is when you apply a touch more hold product like Ceramide Jelly by glazing over your hair part way through drying. I use this with many line ups, I tend to do it when my hair is 90% dry.)

Jen's Experience: Using the styling combination of both hold products (Hydra-Lite Styling Cream and Ceramide Jelly) and not utilising smasters method, I very easily got 4 days out of my hair (for context - the first two days were 35degrees and humid, the second two days rained; I clipped up my hair and slept on a satin pillow case, but did not wear a bonnet of any kind).
Here is Day 2 and Day 4 for you (note: I'm not a very good content creator and didn't take actual photos - these are screenshots from my Instagram stories!) - as you can see, the hold lasted 4 days with definition (though there was more volume on day 4 for sure).
Is there crunch? Will I Need to SOTC?
The 'Crunch' that forms when styling products are applied and we are drying is called a 'cast'. The cast is helpful because it protects the curl formation from breaking up / frizzing out during the drying process, however we do want to release the curls from that cast to reveal soft curls (once the hair is dry). Whether or not your hair forms a cast will actually be impacted by your hair type (finer hair is more likely to cast than coarser hair) and product selection (whilst leave ins can form cast in some hair, you're more likely to experience a cast with products like gels, hair spray or mousse). For example, when using the Hydra-Lite Cream alone, I got a mild cast in my very fine, high porosity hair, however the coarser haired, medium porosity curly in my house hold did not get a cast with just the cream.
Given that this line has been designed for finer haired, easily weighed down folk, most people reading this blog will be finer haired or easily weighed down. I'm going to suggest that you will get a cast from the Ceramide Jelly, will very likely will get a very mild cast from the Hydra-Lite Cream and some of you may get an extremely mild cast from the leave in alone.
In the combos I've tried so far, the cast was very easily broken with a light scrunch with bare hands.
🪄Are there any special tips or tricks?
By now we all know that ingredients lists in Australia must list ingredients in order of content (so the higher up the list an ingredient is, the more of it there is in the final product). The vast majority of products we see have water as the first ingredient. In this collection, 4 out of the 5 products don't start with water. The first ingredient in those is aloe. Aloe is famous hydrator hydrating, a light weight moisturiser. Having it at number 1 (and water way down the list) makes these products potent.
My top tip to all of you is that 'you need less than you think you will'. So start with less and add as needed (as a guide, 1 pump of the shampoo was more than enough to cleanse my shoulder-blade length hair).
🌏 Why This Collection Is Amazing for Aussies
Across Australia — whether humid Queensland summers, temperate Sydney springs, rainy cold Melbourne winters, freezing Canberra nights or dry Perth heat — curls react to moisture and weight differently. The Weightless Collection was developed to deliver:
Lightweight hydration for fine textures
Frizz control that lasts in humidity or rainy weather
Soft, touchable definition
Heat protection without extra weight
It’s an exciting launch that fills a real niche for anyone who’s ever worried that products “feel heavy” or “flatten after a few hours.”
Bounce Curl is already a firm favourite in the Aussie Curl Community, a brand we all trust to care for our curls!
💃🏻💃🏼🕺🏻How does it pair with other products?
The collection is so new that I have only had a chance to try different combos within the same collection thus far. As I try other products, I will update this post to include a list of which other items pair well (Help a curly out! if you try things that work well with any of the Bounce Curl Weightless Collection, let me know so I can include on the list!).
