Oil is an ongoing question in the CG community, and not a black and white answer here. The original Curly Girl Handbook (that the method sprung from) made many mentions of uses for oils & gave recipes - however the author came out years later to state she no longer believes in using raw oils on the hair. The original (and 2nd edition) of the book are still for sale, and so if you follow those, it's CG. If you follow the original author and her subsequent musings, she no longer recommends it.
